If you’re the owner of a Huawei Watch and have been using it for a while now, you probably want to learn some tips and tricks. These will help you make the most of your smartwatch and enhance its performance.
The Huawei Watch GT Pro is the company’s flagship Android Wear watch, and it offers a lot of features for its high price. It also packs a solid fitness tracking feature set.
1. Set a PIN or Pattern Lock

Whether you have a Huawei Watch or any other smartwatch, you can easily set a PIN or Pattern Lock to keep your data safe. The feature helps you protect your data and privacy while you are not wearing your smartwatch.
Once you have set a PIN or Pattern Lock on your Huawei Watch, you can only open and use the watch when you enter your password, pattern, or PIN code. This is great for keeping your personal information private, and it also prevents other users from accessing your device.
However, if you forget your password, PIN, or pattern, there are a few solutions that can help unlock the screen without losing data on your Huawei Watch. These solutions work with all versions of the Huawei Watch and are easy to use.
One solution is to use the Google Find My Device app on your Huawei Watch. This service is designed to allow you to locate and lock or erase your device if it’s lost or stolen.
Another solution is to factory reset your Huawei Watch. To do this, you need to turn off your phone and press and hold the Power and Volume up buttons for 15 seconds. Once you enter the Recovery mode, you will need to follow the system’s instructions to reset your PIN, pattern, or password.
Alternatively, you can try the Custom Recovery method to unlock your Huawei Watch without resetting it. This method can be used on all models of the Huawei Watch, including the Huawei Mate 20 Pro and the Huawei P20 Pro.
2. Turn on Smart Lock
The Huawei Watch 3 is the first smartwatch from Huawei to launch with HarmonyOS, a new software platform that’s meant to work across a range of Huawei devices. It’s a world away from its previous software, Wear OS or LiteOS, and it’s super fast and easy to use.
The design of the Watch 3 is clean, simple and elegant. It looks like a classic man’s watch, with a stainless steel case and a circular screen.
It’s also very comfortable to wear. It comes in a variety of materials including titanium, ceramic and sapphire glass.
There are lots of fitness features on offer, too. We particularly enjoyed the AI running coach that uses data from your health and fitness app to generate a training plan tailored to your needs. It includes training load, VO2 Max and recovery suggestions and you can also track stress levels, SpO2, day-to-day heart rate and skin temperature changes.
Another feature that’s worth mentioning is the built-in ECG, which is useful for heart health monitoring. It’s accurate and quick to read – especially when compared to a dedicated sports watch – and can even help detect irregular heartbeats, so you can get a proper diagnosis from your doctor.
Battery life was pretty good too, with an average of two days of use on a full charge when I used the watch without a screen on. However, when I turned the screen on, it drained much faster than normal, which is something to bear in mind if you plan on using your smartwatch to track your fitness.
There are a few other useful features on the Watch 3 too, including a high-resolution ambient mode when the screen isn’t active that saves power. We also found that it was very helpful during a bout of flu, as it spotted when my body temperature dropped too low for comfort.
3. Turn on Auto Workout Detection
Auto Workout Detection lets you start and stop workouts automatically without having to manually tap them. It also monitors and records the workout, ensuring that it is accurate and complete.
The watch can recognize seven types of workouts automatically: Outdoor run, Indoor run, Outdoor cycle, Indoor cycle, Pool swim, Open water swim and Jump rope. It can also automatically calculate a Running Ability Index for runners.
It can measure your resting heart rate, blood oxygen levels (SpO2), and the number of calories burned. It can also detect your stress level on a periodic basis and display it on the watch.
You can use this feature to get a better understanding of your overall health, and to stay motivated. It also provides a variety of health content, such as advice to reduce your stress.
Note: Before using this feature, ensure that your watch is properly connected to the phone. If your phone is not properly connected, your resting heart rate may not be accurately measured.
When your heart rate is too low, you will receive a Low heart rate alert message on the watch. This will help you avoid falling asleep while exercising and will allow you to improve your overall fitness.
To enable this feature, open the Huawei Health app and touch Devices, then select your device name. Next, go to Continuous heart rate monitoring and set the MONITORING MODE to Smart or Real-time.
You can set a maximum heart rate percentage for each exercise activity. When your maximum heart rate percentage is reached, the watch will adjust the intervals to match the intensity of your activity. This will help you increase your performance and speed up your recovery.
4. Turn on TruSleep
The Honor Band 5 is a great watch for the money, offering a 0.95-inch AMOLED screen, a heart rate monitor and blood oxygen level monitoring along with notification alerts. But its best feature is TruSleep, Huawei’s sleep tracking technology that can accurately detect your deep and light sleep stages.
To turn on TruSleep, you must first open the Huawei Health app and tap Devices. Then, go to the Health monitoring page and enable TruSleep.
Once it’s enabled, the app will start recording your sleep data and sync them to your phone. It can also track your sleeping duration, stage, and sleep quality over time.
You can view the daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly sleep data in the Health app. It can also provide you with hundreds of suggestions for improving your sleep.
The app will also offer personal sleep services, like helping you set an alarm or waking up early when you’re feeling drowsy or when your body is unable to wake up naturally.
It can also help you improve your sleeping habits by predicting if you’re likely to fall asleep during the day. It can also detect irregular sleep schedules and dreaming.
Another useful feature is the ability to turn on Do Not Disturb mode, which will prevent you from being disturbed by notifications and call notifications while you’re asleep. You can also block apps from delivering notifications to your watch by swiping right on the notification to tap block.
If you’re looking for more options to customize your watch, you can add extra watch faces. Some are able to display an additional time zone, which can be helpful when you travel or need to keep track of local times while away from home.
5. Set a Timer
If you want to track a workout or any other activity, you can set up a timer on the Huawei Watch. You can choose how long the countdown should last, and whether it should vibrate or not when you reach your goal.
This can be especially helpful if you’re trying to get in shape or burn some calories. The app will keep a detailed record of everything you do and can even show you how many steps, kilometers or calories you’ve burned.
One of the coolest things about EMUI is that you can add all sorts of extra data to your watch face, from the number of calories you’ve consumed to your battery life. Just flick horizontally to access the watch face selection screen, tap the little cog icon under the one you want and then select ‘Data’.
Another nifty little feature is that you can control notifications from apps on your phone with just a few twists of the crown button. This can be a great way to reveal the most recent app screen and also close open ones if you’re in a rush or worried about draining your battery.
You can also use the ‘trusted’ device option in Settings to automatically unlock your smartphone whenever you connect your paired Huawei Watch. It’s a good way to avoid using your fingerprint scanner or typing your pin in 700 times a day.
The Huawei Health app is packed with useful features, and one of the best is TruSleep, which monitors your sleep and helps you improve your sleeping habits. It can also measure your blood oxygen levels and other useful data, which you can view on the watch or within the Huawei Health app.
